Content Is The King That Kills Most Business Blogs

|

We all know that content is the king, but how much content is really needed to rank high for keywords in Google?

Believe it or not; it doesn't take huge amounts of content to rank high in Google. And content should not be the single most element that kills most business blogs.

Content isn't so much King as most of us are led to believe.

True, for the long haul pages and pages of high quality content, are exactly what Google requires to list your site on the front page of the SERPs. But consider the fact that tons of websites are listed in these locations and do not have tons of superior quality content.

You can write a long drawn out article with quality content and a simple post with only a title, and still get listed on the front page of the SERPs.

Content adds significant value to any website and rich high quality content will definitely compliment your efforts to rank high for the keyword phrases you are targeting, but so will other methods.

So how do they get there?

Can you ever remember doing a Google search for something really uncommon?

Perhaps a lawnmower part number, or a book title, or the exact name of a strange Windows Vista error message.

How frequently do you connect to pages of pure garbage that have absolutely no quality user generated content?

Do you ever land on completely worthless web pages?

This unfortunately happens all to often.

If you hit CTRL+F to find out what keyword caused the page to get the rank that it did; you will often find something stupid like an RSS feed, or some generated garbage that got it ranked there.

Although it aggravates me to no end, these generated pages make a lot of money and Google indexes them and ranks them highly!

You might consider this when writing your next article trying to improve your rank in Google.

It doesn't necessarily take a lot of content to get your top position in Google, but on the other hand, you shouldn't start publishing Title only posts either.

Content is King, and that’s never going to change. But, content shouldn’t be the element that kills most business blogs.

The point here is that you can attain a high rank with Google using minimal wording.

By choosing and using the correct keywords with a minimum amount of wording, you can achieve your goal without killing yourself.

Remember, it doesn't take 50 nails to hang one picture; one nail does the job nicely and professionally!

We all know that content is the king, just don't let it kill your business.

Twitter Can Improve Your Writing

|

Believe it or not, Twitter really can improve your writing.

If you haven't yet joined Twitter, you're definitely missing out on some business and marketing contacts you could be getting.

Because Twitter forces you to be brief and concise; Twitter can improve your writing skills.

Twitter users must say what they have to say, using only 140 characters.

That includes letters, symbols, numbers, spaces, and punctuation marks.

This means that users must say precisely what they want to say in as few words as possible. In essence, Twitter is a mirco blog.

Because most writers are “wordy” and often write in long drawn out descriptions or rambling sentences; it can be difficult creating a message that’s only 140 characters long and still convey their thoughts adequately.

This is exactly how Twitter forces you to exercise and improve your vocabulary.

With only 140 characters to get your message across, most people are forced to dust off their dictionaries and thesaurus to find new descriptive words to use.

You can get the job done in 140 characters when you use shorter, more descriptive words but it does take time and practice.

Twitter can improve your writing by forcing you to replace adverbs and adjectives with verbs. This teaches you say what you want to say in a clearer, more concise way.

Not only can Twitter improve your writing; it also forces you to hone in and improve on your editing skills.

When you stop to think about it, trying to get your point across by writing a 140 character message and getting your followers to take some action; like re tweeting your post, is not an easy hurdle to navigate.

You really need to dig deep into your vocabulary and do some serious thinking sometimes, to shorten your message and still have an effective tweet.

If you use Twitter regularly, you will not only find that Twitter can improve your writing, it will cause you to write better, more effective copy.

Will This Dismal Economy Doom Your Market Niche To Failure?

|

Don't let this dismal economy doom your market niche to failure.

Does your market niche have any useful marketing life left to it?

Is your bottom line deteriorating because of the dismal economy?

Well, don't despair. Recessions and depressions tend to spur innovation and business creativity as business owners try to find solutions to create demands for their businesses.

During the horse and buggy days of the great depression, when the automobiles first came out on the market; people who owned horse and buggy companies never realized that their market niches were doomed. This was primarily because everyone's sales were down.

If a similar innovation impacts your market niche, you could be in big trouble. But otherwise, most of the market niches will still remain. However, only proactive and innovative business owners will manage to survive.

What actually happens depends on you.

You can be a defeatist and just throw in the towel, or you can think of ways to become more adaptable to the changing market and prosper.

Look for changes in your market niche and ask yourself some pointed questions.

  • Did you notice any change in your traffic, or where it's coming from?
  • Did you review your advertising strategies and campaigns?
  • Did you notice any change in demand for your market niche?
  • Do you know who is buying from you and why?
  • Did you get feedback from your customers?
All these things and more must be addressed in order to become as proactive as possible and keep your business alive.

Are there any innovations that are impacting your business?

Currently, the so called "green economy" isn't enough of a threat to warrant much attention. But what if another "stimulus bill" is passed to make them highly competitive to your business?

You need to know how to stay afloat during these times and one the best ways to do it is to keep abreast of government regulations that could severely impact your market niche.

With the speed of the current regime's lawmaking, you should consider widening your market niche or even getting into another area.

It's never a bad idea to grab a market share in a previously untapped market niche.

You can use the Internet to search for ways to appeal to new foreign markets and demographics, or you can discover new uses for your products that appeal to people who are having a tough time right now.

All you have to do is communicate how your market niche can solve their needs.

Don't let this dismal economy doom your market niche to failure until you've thoroughly reviewed things and made an informed decision to either go forward, change your marketing strategy, or as a last resort close your doors.

Blogging Information: The Pros And Cons To Open Commenting

|

There are some pros and cons to open commenting you should consider before you allow it on your website.

The fact that readers can interact with and initiate a conversation with a blog's author, and voice their opinions on various topics, is why blogging has become so popular on the Internet.

Because commenting is such an important part of the blogging experience, many bloggers allow open commenting on their sites without any moderation whatsoever.

Although comments are what make blogging different from other forms of information sharing, you should think twice before allowing open commenting.

Many bloggers make their readers jump through hoops before allowing them to make a comment on their blog.

This is a BAD idea for several reasons. You should never make your readers register or log in to your blog before they can voice their comment, unless you're setting up a membership type blog, or a forum type of platform.

People in this world are always pressed for time and usually have little patience or tolerance for any procedure that causes the slightest inconvenience or slows them down.

Most users will simply leave your blog if they have to register or log in before they can make a comment. It's just not that important for them to leave a comment if they have to take time to sign up, register, or log in.

Many bloggers, like myself, hate to have to remember another password, or even store it so they can make post on a blog.

In addition, there are tons of passwords that get accidentally deleted or lost in the shuffle of recreating a data base, if your computer crashes, or you just lose your hard drive without a backup.

To the average person, the inconvenience is more trouble than it's worth. However, there is a happy medium you can use that's not as inconvenient; CAPTCHA!

As long as you can come up with a CAPTCHA code that is not difficult to read; you should consider using CAPTCHA to verify that comments made to your blog are not spam.

Although it is somewhat of a roadblock to easy blogging; using an easy to read CAPTCHA code
is one remedy to open commenting and the horrors of comment spamming.

If you can find an easy to read CAPTCHA code that doesn't cause the blogger to take more than one try to correctly fill in; you have the solution to open commenting that won't cost you to lose any blog comments.

I have personally tried to fill in CAPTCHA codes that took me several tries and a good deal of time to complete. I have also left several sites when I couldn't get the CAPTCHAs to cooperate. CAPTCHAs are also major roadblocks to people who are color blind.

There are pros and cons to open commenting but generally, the fewer roadblocks you put up, the more comments you will get on your blog. And, the fewer comments you get, the less successful and interactive your blog will become.

The goal is to make it as easy as humanly possible for your readers to participate on your blog and to keep the spam down.

The easier it is for them to comment; the more comments you will receive on your blog.

It's just that cut and dried!
